Ready to take back control of your weight loss goals? Unbeknownst to you, you could be getting in your own way. You put in your best effort and have wonderful intentions only to find yourself frustrated over and over gain. It’s very important to look inward and understand your own patterns that get in your way. Here is where you will learn how to stop sabotaging your weight loss goals with 3 easy steps.

What is weight loss sabotage?

WEIGHT LOSS SABOTAGE IS when you are doing everything right but find yourself not reaching your weight loss goal. This may be because of a number of reasons, one being that it’s hard to change old habits and patterns. It isn’t uncommon to slip back into the same behaviors over and over again.

Are you a weight loss saboteur?

There are three main emotional reasons why you may sabotage your weight loss goals. These include: fear of success, perfectionism and lack of self-compassion. Let’s dig deeper into each one to find out how it could be getting in your way.

The fear of weight loss success.

A weight loss goal is a form of self-improvement and with that comes internal resistance or fears about becoming better than you currently are today. Oftentimes, you set weight loss goals as the opposite of who you really want to become which can keep you stuck in your old ways.

In addition, fear of weight loss success can be about gaining unwanted attention. This may cause you to feel self-conscious leaving you even more uncomfortable then when the weight acted as a protective wall against any attention.

Perfectionism will always sabotage your weight loss success.

Another weight loss sabotage is the mindset of perfectionism that keeps you from weight loss success. It can cause doubt, shame, and guilt which all lead to an unsuccessful weight loss journey. The mind behind this sabotaging behavior often thinks that weight loss should be easy because someone else has done it before but for you it is a struggle, and therefore, you’re a failure.

When weight loss goals become about being perfect, the weight loss journey can be a painful one because there is no room to make mistakes or slip-ups. This leaves you feeling like a failure and not worthy of your weight loss goal success. When this happens it’s time to take off those rose colored glasses and see yourself as a human.

Lastly, weight loss sabotage can also be due to a lack of self-compassion.

Lack of self compassion is essential when it comes to weight loss success because how you treat yourself will determine if you are successful or not. Self-criticism and shaming are weight loss sabotages that leave you feeling unworthy which then makes it impossible for your body to release any added weight.

Until your body feels safe and loved, it will not feel safe to release the layer of protection that you have subconsciously needed to endure your life and circumstances.

How can weight loss sabotage be stopped?

WEIGHT LOSS SABOTAGE CAN BE STOPPED with just a few easy steps. First, stop dieting! Research has shown that weight loss is more successful when the focus isn’t on weight but rather health and well being.

Second, be mindful of your thoughts about food and weight loss. It’s important to understand the difference between being weight focused and weight neutral. Weight focused implies you will not be successful until a certain number shows on that scale. Weight neutral is when you love your body no matter what the number says on that scale. This doesn’t mean it’s okay to stay at a weight where you are hurting yourself mentally and physically but rather being compassionate with yourself as you journey towards health.

The last step is to take action. It’s important to be kind to yourself when you are trying something new so that weight loss success can be achieved. If weight loss still isn’t working, it may just mean you need more support or a change of mindset.

Ready for your 3 East steps to stop sabotaging your weight loss?

There are three things you must do:

Step One: Take a Moment to Reflect on Your Goal and Why You Want It .

Are you even aware as to why you want to lose weight? Be realistic and set reasonable goals. For example, is your goal to lose 50 pounds and look smashing in a bikini? Or, is a more realistic goal to lose weight in order to feel comfortable and confident in your body so that you can stop avoiding people?

Remember, weight neutral vs weight focused. This will make all the difference! You can still feel amazing, comfortable, and confident in your body without falling into societies pressures that only a certain body type is acceptable. There are so many body shapes and sizes that look amazing in that bikini!

Step Two: Realize That Dieting Isn’t the Answer.

As previously stated and as I’ve written before diets simply do not work. They set you up to fail. So, why keep doing the same thing and expect different results? You know that is the definition of insanity, right?

Be willing to ditch the diets and stop seeing food as either good or bad. Learn how to be aware, mindful, and in tune with what your body really needs, wants and desires. Once you learn that, you will stop sabotaging your weight loss success.

Step Three: Take Action, Be Mindful of Your Thoughts and Actions, And Love Yourself No Matter What.

It’s time to take action. Be mindful of what you are thinking about weight loss, your body and food because this is where weight loss sabotage can come into play.

Be willing to go deeper and challenge your own thoughts about why weight loss is so important. Is your worth attached to weight loss success? Is your identity tied to what the scale says?

Until you’re willing to take a more gentle and self-compassionate approach, you will continue to sabotage your best efforts. It’s hard to feel motivated when all you’re hearing in your head is criticism. You will feel much more inspired and encouraged with gentle, loving messages about your journey and the process of true weight loss success.

Finally, always be willing to get whatever support you need on your journey. You don’t have to feel overwhelmed and alone on your journey. Get around like minded women, find your trusted guide to walk with you and encourage you every step of the way, and believe in yourself. You can finally stop sabotaging your weight loss and feel comfortable and confident in your body. You deserve that.
